Today’s wedding spotlight is an amazing couple from our hometown of Long Beach NY. Michelle and Steven met while playing in the Michelle O’ Neill Foundation volleyball tournament, an annual charity event that just recently celebrated its 20 year anniversary. The event was started in 1997 to raise money for children with cancer and special needs. It’s always a fun filled day of food, drinks, and beach volleyball, but this particular day it led to something much more.
Michelle and Steve got married in July 2016 at the Dreams La Romana Resort in the Dominican Republic.
“We chose Dreams La Romana Resort because it provided us with a secluded location for our ceremony and reception that had a beautiful view of the island’s clear blue water. We chose the month of July since we knew a lot of our guests would be able to attend at that time of year. We also wanted to avoid hurricane season.”
A downside to having a destination wedding is that none of the planning is done face to face. Luckily, Michelle and Steve were in good hands with the staff at the Dreams La Romana resort.
“Our resort paired us with an onsite wedding planner, which was included in our wedding package. We arranged everything, from the flowers to the location and everything in between, by communicating through email.”
One particular wedding vendor that Michelle and Steven loved was their photographer and videographer German Paz.
“German and his team did an amazing job capturing the ambience around us. They presented us with unique shots that represent our outgoing spirits along with the special, candid moments that took place throughout our wedding day. It is obvious he is very passionate about what he does, which translates through his work.”
Michelle and Steven invited 160 guests, resulting in attendance of about 80, which is what they anticipated.
“Having a destination wedding allowed us to spend quality time with our friends and family over the span of a week. We laughed, drank, and celebrated throughout our entire stay. Can’t beat that!”
Although there were some bumps in the road throughout the wedding planning process, Michelle reminds us of what’s really important.
“All the stress that comes with coordinating a wedding disappears as soon as you begin to walk down the isle towards the person you love. Enjoy every second of it!”
We wish Michelle and Steven a lifetime of love and laughter.
