Whether you’re trying to lose a few pounds, or you simply wish to be healthier overall as your wedding date approaches, here are five little life hacks we’ve put together to ensure that you will look breathtaking on your big day.
Drink More Water
Hydration is absolutely essential to maintaining a healthy body. In addition to it’s positive effects on your skin, drinking a minimum of 64 ounces of water a day can actually help you curb your cravings. A 16 ounce serving of water 30 minutes before consuming a meal can actually curb your appetite and prevent you from overeating. 16 ounces, 4 times a day, and you’re on your way to healthy skin and weight. Pro Tip: Too much water for one sitting? Try the 8 eights technique. 8 ounces every hour for 8 hours. Try setting your phone as a reminder! =)
Eat a Healthy Breakfast
Breakfast is crucial to getting your day started on the right track. The worst mistake people make is skipping breakfast, thinking that they will lose weight by missing a meal. High protein, high fiber, and low sugar are the three keys to breakfast success. Kashi has several cereals and bars that are packed with protein and fiber. The Epic Seed makes amazing Greek yogurts combined with chia seeds for a super healthy and convenient snack. Pro Tip: Try our Planestry meal replacement shake by combining one scoop of Iso100 (birthday cake flavor is yummy) protein with a tbsp of organic peanut butter, a banana, 12 ounces of Trader Joe’s coconut water, and ice. Great after a morning workout, curbs your appetite, and it tastes delicious!
You’re Sweet Enough!
Speaking of mornings, if you’re a coffee junkie like myself, you might be making the wrong choices with your cup of joe. Many fraps and iced beverages contain as many calories as a meal, and exceed your daily recommendation of sugar. If caffeine is your goal, here are the most caffeinated beverages to give you a boost at Starbucks, but skip the whipped cream and sugar. And if you’re a Dunkin gal, same rules apply, but stay away from those donuts. (I know, it’s tough….be strong!)
Cheat Day Eats
Diets suck. Don’t I know it. But dieting doesn’t mean you have to be miserable 7 days a week. Cheat days are great ways to reward yourself for your will power and good habits. Pick ONE day, every week where you can eat that food item you’ve been craving. Pizza? Go for it. Bacon Cheeseburger? You deserve it. Just remember though, as good as it tastes, it will be SIX days until you can have it again. On your good days, stick to small, healthy meals every 3-4 hours. Pro tip: Try to have your cheat days coincide with a dinner party or event where you know there will be plenty of delicious food. If you plan for it properly, no one will understand how you eat whatever you want and stay so fit. Little do they know you’ve been eating grilled chicken and steamed veggies for the past week!
Establish a Workout Regiment
The hardest thing about exercising is consistency. Why do you think gyms are packed every January and February and then…not so much. Get in a groove. Schedule evening walks or bike rides with a friend. Better yet, try a new fitness class with friends every week until you find one you like. Most classes and fitness programs offer amazing introductory offers. Pro tip: Set your alarm extra early in the morning so that you have time to exercise. Get up that same time every day, no matter what. Once you’re awake you might as well exercise, right!?
